With man this is impossible, but not with God. For all things are possible with God. – Mark 10:27
Jesus does not soften the reality of human limitation in Mark 10:27. He names it plainly: there are things we cannot do, fix, earn, or overcome by our own strength. Then He turns our eyes toward God, whose power is not measured by the limits we see.
When our strength reaches its limit
There is a quiet comfort in the way Jesus puts these two realities side by side. With man, something can be impossible. With God, it is not.
We tend to measure what can happen by what we can see and what we can do. We look at the circumstances, consider our resources, remember our failures, and decide how far we can reasonably expect to go. But God is not confined by any of those measurements.
That does not mean every situation will unfold according to the outcome we hope for. Mark 10:27 is not a promise that God will give us everything we ask for in the way we imagine it. It is a reminder of something deeper: our limitations are not God’s limitations.
Some things really are beyond us
That matters because there are burdens we cannot carry indefinitely on our own. We may reach the end of our ability to repair a relationship, change another person’s heart, overcome a deeply rooted sin, or see how a difficult situation could possibly be restored.
Even our need for salvation points to the same truth. We cannot make ourselves right with God through our own effort. What is impossible for us is possible with Him.
Recognizing that is not giving up. It is humility. Like a sheep that cannot find its way without a shepherd, we sometimes need to stop pretending that we can see the whole path. Faith begins, in part, when we become honest about where our strength ends.
God does not need our strength to be enough
Perhaps that is where this verse meets us most personally. We can spend so much energy trying to figure out how we will make something happen that we forget who we are trusting.
God’s power does not begin where ours becomes impressive. It meets us precisely where our ability is exhausted. We can bring Him the situation we cannot solve, the burden we cannot lift, and the future we cannot see. We do not have to make the impossible look manageable before we bring it to Him.
There may still be waiting. There may still be hard work, difficult conversations, unanswered questions, and steps we do not yet understand. But we do not take those steps alone.
Trust Him with what you cannot do
Mark 10:27 gives us permission to admit that something is beyond us without concluding that it is beyond God. That distinction can change the way we carry an uncertain day.
We can be faithful with what God has placed in our hands while leaving the outcome in His hands. We can walk humbly, pray honestly, and trust Him when the path ahead seems impossible.
Our strength has boundaries. God’s does not. And when we reach the place where we can no longer see a way forward, we can still look to Him.
