God explains Himself: Love

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. – John 1:1

Have you ever wondered how we can truly understand who God is? The answer is simple yet profound: we look to Jesus. He is the Word, the expression of God’s love and truth, the one who makes the heart of God known to us.

Jesus as the Word

Jesus is not just a teacher, prophet, or wise man. He is the Word. That means He is all the ideas, imaginations, and expressions of everything that exists. He embodies all that can be thought of and all that can be discovered. In Him is the fullness of truth, wisdom, and life. He is everything.

Understanding God’s Mystery

God reveals Himself to us in ways we can grasp, yet His greatness often stretches far beyond our comprehension. We struggle to imagine what “in the beginning” truly means, or how God can be three persons in one. We wrestle with the mystery of Jesus being fully God and fully human. But if we could explain everything about Him, He would be no greater than our own thoughts. The mystery reminds us that He is God, far above us, yet close enough to make Himself known.

God’s Love Made Clear in Jesus

There is one thing God has made unmistakably clear: His love. Jesus came to show us that love in the most personal and powerful way. Love is what we long for most deeply, the force that moves poets, artists, and hearts everywhere. We know its presence even when words fail. And it is here, in love, that God touches us most profoundly. Through Jesus we see His forgiveness, His care, and His desire to ignite our own hearts with His love. Love is how God explains Himself to us.

Living by Faith in His Love

Much about God requires faith and trust. We may not understand every mystery, but we can rest in what He has shown us. His love is not distant—it is personal, powerful, and constant. Through Jesus, we experience that love in our lives, a love that forgives, heals, and transforms. God’s love is His own way of making Himself known to us, and it is the foundation of our faith.
