Peace Inside

I have told you these things so that in me you may have peace. In the world you have trouble and suffering, but take courage – I have conquered the world. – John 16:33

Jesus had just finished sharing some challenging truths with His disciples. He spoke in contrasts, explaining that certain difficult things would happen so that something even better could follow. For example, He told them that He was going away, but this was for their good because the Holy Spirit would come after He left.

The reality of living in the world

Jesus ended His conversation with one last contrast. We live in a world that does not believe in Him. We cannot avoid its pressures, troubles, and hardships. There will be moments when we face suffering, stress, or anxiety. Yet Jesus explained that He told His disciples about these challenges so they could have peace.

Finding peace in the midst of trouble

At first, this may seem confusing. How does hearing about difficulties bring peace? The answer lies in the fact that Jesus not only knows about these challenges but has personally experienced them. He fully understands every trial, hurt, and discouragement we face.

Jesus has already won the victory

Here is the key truth: Jesus does not simply sympathize with us, He has already overcome the very troubles we encounter. He has conquered the world. This means that when we face pain, uncertainty, or hardship, we can face them with courage. We can move forward boldly, knowing that the victory is already won.

Living in His peace today

Through His love, forgiveness, and triumph over evil, Jesus has secured our victory as well. His peace lives within us, enabling us to walk through life’s challenges with confidence. The world may bring trouble, but in Christ, we have hope, courage, and the assurance that He has already overcome it all.
