Trade fear for faith

Now faith is being sure of what we hope for, being convinced of what we do not see. – Hebrews 11:1

Some things we cannot see:

  • The wind.
  • Love.
  • God.

Yet each of these is real, and we know it because we experience the results. A strong wind can shake the trees, while a gentle breeze whispers through the leaves. Jesus compared the Spirit of God to the wind. We cannot see Him directly, but we feel His presence and witness His work all around us.

The Power of Love We Can Feel

Love is another unseen reality. We recognize it in kind words, compassionate deeds, and selfless actions. Like the wind, love moves through people and changes lives. There is nothing more powerful than the deep assurance of love in our hearts. Love is the clearest reflection of God’s nature, which is why Scripture reminds us again and again that love is the greatest of all virtues.

Recognizing God’s Presence

What about God Himself? Do we notice the gentle stirrings of His Spirit? Do we see the evidence of His power in changed lives and transformed hearts? Do we feel His presence guiding us, strengthening us, and working through us? These are the signs that build our confidence in the God we cannot see with our eyes, but know with our hearts.

Faith That Leads to Love

God does not overwhelm us with flashing signs in the heavens or broadcast appearances on every screen. Instead, He invites us to believe through faith. If His presence were forced upon us in undeniable ways, we might fear Him but never truly love Him. Love requires trust, not terror.

God Revealed Through Jesus

That is why God chose to reveal Himself in Jesus. He became one of us, walking among us, speaking gently, healing, teaching, and showing His love. There were no blinding displays of power, but instead, grace and compassion. In Jesus, fear gives way to faith, and faith blossoms into love. This is the confidence we carry: God is with us, even when we cannot see Him.
