Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. – 2 Corinthians 9:7
What do we have that God hasn’t already given us? Everything we call our own—our possessions, our families, our talents, and even the breath in our lungs—comes from His generous hand. So can we really offer anything to God? The truth is that what we “give” is already His. Yet, in His kindness, He invites us to participate in His work by managing what He has placed in our care.
Stewards, Not Owners
It can be easy to think of ourselves as owners of what we have, but God calls us to see ourselves differently. We are caretakers of His creation, entrusted with time, resources, and abilities to use wisely. Everything belongs to Him, and as His children, we are given the privilege of stewarding His blessings for His purposes.
Giving from the Heart
God doesn’t demand gifts out of guilt or pressure. He allows us to decide, in our hearts, how we will use what we’ve been given. This includes our money, our time, and our talents. When we choose to give freely and joyfully, our hearts align with His. True generosity comes from love, not obligation, and God delights in that cheerful spirit.
Reflecting God’s Generous Nature
As we give, we reflect the nature of our Creator—the One who gives endlessly and without reservation. Being good stewards means recognizing that we are caring for what belongs to our Father. Whether through acts of kindness, sharing our time, or supporting those in need, our generosity brings joy to God and to us.
Be a steward. Be a giver. When we live with open hands and joyful hearts, we join God in His ongoing care for all creation. How could that not make us cheerful?
