Truly, truly, I tell you, whoever hears My word and believes Him who sent Me has eternal life and will not come under judgment. Indeed, he has crossed over from death to life. – John 5:24

What does it mean to truly hear the words of Jesus? When He spoke, His voice carried not only authority but deep compassion, inviting every listener to step into life with God. In this verse, Jesus answers the longing of the human heart by offering a clear promise: those who hear and believe receive eternal life. His words still speak today, calling us to trust Him fully.

Why does Jesus emphasize the importance of hearing and believing?

Jesus often repeated the phrase “truly, truly” to signal that His message carried eternal significance. Here He draws our attention to the simplicity and the power of faith. Eternal life is not earned through effort or spiritual achievement. It is a gift received by hearing His word and believing that He was sent by the Father. This trust opens the door to complete forgiveness and a restored relationship with God, reminding us that salvation rests in His grace alone.

What does it mean to pass from death to life?

Jesus describes a transformation that is total and immediate. Before believing, we are spiritually dead, unable to bring ourselves into life. But the moment we trust in Christ, everything changes. We cross over from death into life, fully forgiven, fully renewed, fully restored. This is not a partial shift or a slow transition. It is a decisive work of God, and it fills our hearts with gratitude and hope.

How do we continue to hear His voice today?

Though we were not present to hear Jesus speak these words in person, His voice still reaches us through Scripture. As we read His teachings, promises, and invitations, the same compassion that touched lives long ago meets us now. He continues to say, “Believe, and you will live.” Each time we open His word with a willing heart, He strengthens our faith and reminds us that eternal life is already ours through Him.
