For we live by faith, not by sight. – 2 Corinthians 5:7
What do you see every day? Maybe it’s your neighborhood, your loved ones, or the beauty of God’s creation all around you. But if you look closely, you’ll also notice signs of a broken world—suffering, temptation, and the effects of sin that shadow even the most beautiful moments. What we see can shape how we live, but faith calls us to look beyond what is visible to the deeper truth of God’s promises.
Seeing with Spiritual Eyes
Everything beautiful around us reflects God’s incredible creativity. The mountains, the laughter of a child, and the calm of an evening sky are reminders of His goodness. Yet this same world is also fallen. Sin distorts what God made perfect, and people often chase after what they can see—wealth, comfort, or status—hoping to fill an inner emptiness. The problem is that what we see is temporary, while faith opens our eyes to what lasts forever.
Faith Gives Us a Clearer Vision
Faith helps us see the truth behind what our eyes miss. It reminds us that God’s creation, though beautiful, is still waiting for redemption. The world we live in now points us toward something greater: the coming of a new heaven and a new earth where everything will be restored. When we walk by faith, we see beyond today’s pain and recognize God’s eternal plan at work.
Living by Faith Until We See
Faith teaches us that the most important things in life are often unseen. We cannot see God, yet we believe. We cannot see His love, yet we experience it every day. We cannot see the future, yet we trust Him to lead us through it. When we try to grasp beauty or meaning apart from Him, it fades, but when we walk in faith, we find a beauty in Christ that surpasses all we could imagine.
The amazing promise of faith is that one day, everything we now believe will be visible and real. We will see our Savior face to face, and faith will become sight. Until that day, we keep walking—confidently, patiently, and joyfully—by faith, not by sight.
