And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. – Colossians 3:14
Do you want to be kind, forgiving, patient, humble, and compassionate? It all begins with love. Every virtue we admire and strive for flows out of a heart transformed by the love of God. Without love, even our best efforts fall short of what God desires for us.
The Foundation of Every Virtue
Kindness, humility, and forgiveness are beautiful expressions of faith, but they only have real meaning when rooted in love. As Paul reminds us in 1 Corinthians 13, we can do great things, even sacrificial things, but without love, they amount to nothing. Love is the thread that ties every virtue together. It is what gives life, purpose, and unity to our actions.
More Than Obligation
When our actions come from duty alone, they can easily become mechanical or burdensome. God’s call is not for us to simply follow rules but to be transformed by His Spirit. Love changes the way we see others and moves us to act from genuine care rather than obligation. It is love that turns good deeds into acts of worship.
Becoming Like Christ
Love reflects the very nature of God. He is love, and through His Spirit, that same love begins to define us. As we grow in relationship with Him, love reshapes our hearts and renews our minds. When we “put on love,” we are clothing ourselves in the character of Christ, allowing His presence to shine through everything we do.
Put on love, and let it bind everything in your life together in perfect unity.
