Therefore, beloved, since we have these promises, let us cleanse ourselves from everything that defiles body and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God. – 2 Corinthians 7:1

Even the smallest things can be deadly.

A virus is so tiny that we cannot see it, yet its effects can be devastating. In the same way, each of us carries within ourselves something far more destructive than any disease. Sin is the true sickness of humanity. It has broken God’s creation, caused suffering and death, and left us in desperate need of healing.

The Sickness of Sin

Sin infects every one of us. It leads to separation from God and brings about certain death. It is the root of all pain, disease, and destruction. Left untreated, this sickness consumes the heart and soul, leaving us without hope. But God has not left us without a cure.

The Healing Power of Jesus

God provided the only way of healing through His Son, Jesus Christ. Jesus took our sickness of sin upon Himself. On the cross, He carried the weight of disobedience, absorbed the poison of evil, and through His death and resurrection, brought us complete healing. By His grace and unending love, we are forgiven, restored, and made whole. In Him we find both protection and eternal life.

Living in the Freedom of Healing

Because Jesus has healed us, we should not return to the sickness of sin. Just as we protect ourselves from harmful germs, we are called to guard our hearts and minds. We do this by breathing in the truth of God’s Word, staying cautious of temptation, and continually cleansing ourselves through prayer and Scripture. God has delivered us from the most dangerous and deadly condition of all. Let us stand close to Jesus and live in the freedom of His healing.

Stay Near to Christ

The safest place we can ever be is in the presence of Jesus. He alone has the power to protect, to heal, and to save. Let us remain close to Him, trusting in His grace, and walking each day in the new life He has given us.
