The Lord guards my path

For the Lord guards the path of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish. – Psalm 1:6

What truly makes someone righteous? Is it good deeds, kindness, or moral living? While those things matter, Scripture reveals that righteousness isn’t something we can earn or achieve by our own effort. It’s something far greater—a gift from God, given through Jesus Christ to those who believe.

What does the Bible say about our own righteousness?

Romans 3:10 tells us plainly, “There is no one righteous, not even one.” Isaiah 64:6 paints the picture even more vividly, describing our self-made righteousness as “filthy rags” before a holy God. No matter how good our intentions or how pure our actions may seem, they cannot erase the stain of sin. The truth is that one sin separates us from God, and no amount of striving can bridge that gap. We are born into sin and powerless to make ourselves right before Him.

God makes us righteous through Jesus Christ!

The beauty of the gospel is that God didn’t leave us in our brokenness. Out of His great love, He sent His Son, Jesus, to live the perfect life we could not live and to die the death we deserved. Through His resurrection, Jesus conquered sin and death once and for all. We are made righteous not by our own works but through faith in Him. When we place our trust in Jesus, God covers us with His grace and credits His righteousness to us. It’s not something we earn; it’s a gift freely given.

How can we live in the assurance of God’s righteousness?

Because of Jesus, we are no longer defined by our failures or shortcomings. God now sees us through the lens of Christ’s perfection. As we walk with Him, we are guided and strengthened by His Spirit. The path of the righteous isn’t one of perfection but of trust—a daily journey of following Jesus, depending on His grace, and letting His truth shape our hearts. In Him, we are made new, forgiven, and protected. The Lord Himself guards our steps, keeping us close and leading us toward life everlasting.

Let this truth bring peace to your soul today: righteousness is not something you achieve, but something you receive. Rest in His grace, walk in His light, and trust that the Lord will guard your path as you follow Him.
