Every believer wrestles with the pull of distractions. Our hearts can be easily drawn toward things that compete with the love of God. The question is simple but searching: what do you love more than the Lord?
Questions to Search Your Heart
Take a moment to pause and reflect. These questions may help you see what holds the deepest place in your heart.
- What is your very first thought when you wake up in the morning? Watch out.
- Where does your mind go when it begins to wander? Watch out.
- What takes up most of your time and energy? Watch out.
- What captures your affections the quickest? Watch out.
- Where do you run when you need comfort? Watch out.
- Who or what has ownership of your heart? Watch out.
- What fills your spare moments when nothing else is demanding your attention? Watch out.
Let the Lord Fill Your Heart
The Lord’s love is greater than anything else that could occupy your mind or affections. When you allow His love to shape your thoughts, your heart begins to burn with a deeper devotion. Nothing compares to His presence, and nothing should come before Him. Let His love lead you, strengthen you, and guard your heart against every rival affection.
Choose to Love Him First
Do not let lesser loves take the place of the greatest love. Watch out for the things that creep in and try to steal your attention. Love the Lord above all else, and you will find joy, peace, and the fullness of life in Him.
