You have heard, O Lord, the desire of the humble; You will strengthen their hearts. You will incline Your ear – Psalm 10:17
What are the real desires of a humble heart? Is it wealth, luxury, fame, power, or success? These questions invite us to pause and reflect. What is it that we truly long for? Do our desires reflect humility and service, or do they reveal selfish ambitions and cravings for personal gain? Do we seek what glorifies God, or only what benefits ourselves?
The Heart of True Humility
Humility begins when we recognize God as the Creator of all things. When we place ourselves within that truth, we see who we really are in light of His greatness. Pride tempts us to compare ourselves with others, but true humility asks us to compare ourselves with God. In His presence, we see how small we really are.
God’s Great Love for the Humble
Yet humility does not leave us feeling worthless. Even though we may seem like tiny specks in the universe, God assures us that He knows us intimately, down to the number of hairs on our heads. The same God who created everything loves us deeply. We are not insignificant to Him—we are His beloved children.
The Joy of God’s Grace
Through His grace, God draws us near. He listens to our prayers, provides for our needs, and gives us strength each day. To stand humbly before God is not to feel shame or humiliation, but to rejoice in His overwhelming love. This is the true beauty of humility: to know that we are cherished by the One who made the heavens and the earth.
Shaping Our Desires
So, what is it that we truly desire? May our hearts seek not worldly gain but the joy of living for God’s glory. In humility we find peace, strength, and purpose, knowing that His love defines who we are and shapes what we long for.
