A person’s heart plans their course, but the Lord determines their steps – Proverbs 16:9
Do you ever plan to plan?
It is often easier to think about doing something than to actually do it. Many of us approach following Jesus this way. Instead of stepping out in faith, we pause, trying to “figure out how” before we ever begin. But Jesus calls us to follow Him with trust, not hesitation.
The Call to Follow Without Delay
In Luke 9, someone tells Jesus he wants to follow Him but first must bury his father. Another leaves when Jesus explains that following Him means having no permanent home. These words from Jesus were not harsh but intentional. He was showing that true discipleship requires faith. Following Him is not like any other commitment—it means trusting Him completely and moving forward without delay.
Trusting God More Than Our Plans
When we follow Jesus, humility leads us to place our plans in His hands. Instead of trying to control and analyze every step, we allow faith to guide us. Simple trust replaces our need for certainty. At first this may feel risky or even foolish, but then we remember who is leading us. We are walking with the Creator of the universe, the Savior who gave His life to show His love for us.
Making Plans with God at the Center
It is not wrong to make plans, as long as they are surrendered to God’s will. The Lord often gives us dreams, goals, and desires for the future. But as we pursue them, we do so with confidence that every step is guided and protected by Him. His path becomes our path, and His direction shapes our journey.
Faith in Action
It is one thing to agree in our hearts, but another to put faith into action. Jesus calls us not just to plan to follow Him, but to actually rise and walk in His steps. Today, let us choose to embrace faith and truly follow our Savior with trust and devotion.
