Reverence for the Lord teaches you wisdom, and humility comes before honor. – Proverbs 15:33

How do we show God that we truly trust Him?
Last night a thunderstorm rolled across the sky, a powerful reminder of God’s creative majesty. Yet I did not run outside to stand beneath the flashing clouds and ask Him to display His power. Along with the beauty of thunder and lightning, God has also given us wisdom to guide how we respond to His creation.

Wisdom as a Gift from God

Through listening, learning, and experience, God provides us with the ability to think carefully about the choices we make. This does not mean we always get it right. In fact, we often fall short. But God has made many practical truths clear to us. We do not put our hand in a fire, drive recklessly, or leap off a cliff expecting a miracle on the way down. Faith is not recklessness. True trust in God means believing His Word and honoring the order He has placed in creation.

Faith and Reverence, Not Recklessness

God does indeed watch over us, and at times His care is miraculous. Yet His protection is not an excuse to act foolishly or test Him by taking unnecessary risks. To do so is not faith but pride, assuming that we can control or demand God’s safeguarding. This attitude dishonors Him and shows a lack of reverence.

Living with Trust and Humility

God’s love for us includes His desire to teach us wisdom. Trusting Him means walking in humility, making wise decisions, and respecting the world He has made. Faith and reverence work together, reminding us that God is faithful, and we honor Him best when we follow His guidance with grateful hearts.
