In the spring, at the time when kings march out to war, David sent Joab with his servants and the whole army of Israel. They destroyed the Ammonites and besieged Rabbah, but David remained in Jerusalem. – 2 Samuel 11:1

Be where God calls you to be.

In Scripture we read, “At the time when kings go out to war… David stayed at home.” That single decision opened the door to temptation. David chose to remain where he should not have been, and it led to a downward spiral. He committed adultery, which set off a chain of sin that carried him farther from God’s will. David stayed when he was called to go.

The Danger of Being Out of Place

There are seasons in life when God’s direction may seem unclear, but there are also many times when His will is unmistakable. We often know what we should be doing, yet we choose otherwise. In moments when we should go, we stay. In moments when we should stay, we go. Like David, even small acts of disobedience can open the door to pride, temptation, and deeper sin.

Learning from David’s Mistake

David’s story reminds us that being out of step with God’s calling can have lasting consequences. A single act of hesitation or misdirection can create ripple effects in our spiritual lives. The safest and wisest place to be is always within the will of God. When we align ourselves with His calling, we guard our hearts against temptation and draw closer to His purpose for us.

Obedience Leads to Blessing

When God calls you to act—whether it is to love others, let go of pride, or place your trust fully in Him—the best response is simple obedience. Do not hesitate. Do not delay. Just follow where He leads. When God says to go, then go. When He says to stay, then stay. His way is always the path to life and blessing.
